Wallis Warfield Simpson became the Duchess (and almost a Queen).
Wallis met Prince Edward at a party in 1931. According to his biographers, the couple began dating in 1934 during her second marriage. Edward became king of England in 1936, but abdicated to marry Wallis.
His brother King George VI made Edward the Duke of Windsor and the couple was married June 3, 1937. The marriage ended May 28, 1972, when Edward died of cancer.
