March 27, 1977 – a collision of Boeing 747-206B and Boeing 747-121 at the airport of Los Rodeos, 583 dead. The catastrophe happened on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). On the runway, two airliners – the Boeing 747-206B of KLM, operating KL4805 Amsterdam-Las Palmas, and Boeing 747-121 of Pan American airline, flown Los Angeles-New York-Las Palmas. Only 54 passengers and 7 crew members of one of the aircraft managed to survive.
